Celebrate Yourself

Thanks to the reader who posted the following (it was just what I need to read):
Celebrate the fact that there
never was, or ever will be any-
one as unique as you.

Express and develop this being
without equal to the maximum.

The world will never experience
the likes of you again.

Although some of your relatives
and friends may say:

Thank God for that!

  1. This reminded me of another verse that has been meaningful to me spiritually:

from "Song of Myself," by Walt Whitman

And I say to mankind, Be not curious about God,
For I who am curious about each am not curious about God,
(No array of terms can say how much I am at peace about God and about death.)

I hear and behold God in every object, yet understand God not in the least,
Nor do I understand who there can be more wonderful than myself.

Why should I wish to see God better than this day?
I see something of God each hour of the twenty-four, and each moment then,
In the faces of men and women I see God, and in my own face in the glass,
I find letters from God dropt in the street, and every one is sign'd
    by God's name,
And I leave them where they are, for I know that wheresoe'er I go,
Others will punctually come for ever and ever.

  2. Thanks, Tomte. That poem rocks. Also by WW:

    I loafe and invite my Soul;
I lean and loafe at my ease, observing a spear of summer grass.

  3. I wonder if there is a love of nature (seeing God's work in nature) in Laestadianism? Growing up most folks in my church were farmers, the pastoral metaphors in scripture seemed especially relevant to those of us who had actually raised plants and animals.

Here's my favorite spiritual poem, by E. E. Cummings. More nature imagery:

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
wich is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday;this is the birth
day of life and love and wings:and of the gay
    great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
    breathing any-lifted from the no
    of all nothing-human merely being
    doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
