A Few Rules, A Poem

Caveat emptor: this blog is not a place for personal attacks, vulgarity or unreasoned rants. (Reasonable rants are just fine.)
Don't be one of those about whom Ben Franklin said: ""Many have quarreled about religion that never practiced it." I will delete anything determined to be outside the bounds, because it's my blog and I get to do that.

Also, if you'd like to post a message, it is more likely to be read under the most recent topic (don't worry if it doesn't relate). You can choose to post anonymously.

Now for a some relief from meaness and politics, one of my favorite poems by Gerard Manley Hopkins:

Pied Beauty

GLORY be to God for dappled things—

For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;

For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;

Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;

Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough

And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spare, strange;

Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)

With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;

He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:

Praise him

  1. To rely on anything Michael Moore says is a huge mistake. At best he is a successful Hollywood propagandist. His careless pronouncements cannot be and are not backed by facts.

    I urge everyone to do themselves a favor and read the 9/11 Commission Report.

    We have a choice between two candidates. Neither is perfect. A vote for Kerry would not be in the best interest of the future of our great country. He's had 20 years in the Senate to make a positive difference. Examine his voting record. It has fairly earned him an extreme liberal reputation. Bush, though he's made mistakes, is clearly the better choice. His record speaks for itself. He is consistent in his direction and he is a true believer in capitalism and social responsibility.

  2. WAKE UP! DId Iraq attack us? The war has killed an estimated 100,000 Iraqi citizens. Most of these are women and children, with about 95 percent of those deaths caused by bombs or fire from helicopter gunships. George W. Bush is utimately responsible for these deaths.

    See AP article (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news%20?tmpl=story&cid=540&ncid=736&e=3&u=/ap/20041028/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_death_toll)

    Please. End the madness. Pray, then vote for Kerry, then pray some more.

  3. Capitalism? Was Jesus a true believer in capitalism? When did that trump "thou shalt not kill" and "love your enemy."

  4. No, I don't think that Jesus was a capitalist. He would have been close to Fidel, Che and undoubtedly Yasir. I heard through the celestial grapevine that he channeled into Erasmus' spirit who told him to wait several centuries and get in touch with Marx. He got impatient and popped up again (in the middle of the night) and spoke to Hugo, who told him not to hurry things. Understand that he was waiting for the humanitarian of the age before he decided who his real friends were. Since it's now obvious that communism and radical socialism are the real successes of the twentieth century I suspect that he is on his way to Tom Daschel's house to console him.
